Position Title: Development Officer (full-time)

Hiring Manager: Director of Development, UMFNE

Location: Derry, NH


Position Overview

The Development Officer position is responsible for identifying and working with prospects for major and principal gift cultivation, responding to donor inquiries, and leading donor engagements. The Development Officer conducts in-depth research on individuals, corporations, and foundations to assist those whose philanthropic goals and interests best align with the United Methodist Foundation of New England (UMFNE), the New England Conference of the UMC (NEUMC), and local churches.


Responsibilities

  • Fields donor inquiries
  • Works closely as part of a team with the Director of Development to approach donors
  • Conducts detailed research using public, proprietary, or other databases, newspapers, published materials and other resources to identify potential donors and funding sources
  • Collects, synthesizes, analyzes and interprets biographic, business and financial information based on the UMFNE and NEUMC fundraising strategies and objectives
  • Works with Director to design and execute comprehensive prospect acquisition strategies to identify potential new donors to direct ongoing fundraising efforts
  • Develops and maintains ongoing, collaborative working relationships with UMFNE staff
  • Maintains constituent data in database
  • Maintains and upholds the highest professional and ethical standards


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 8+ years’ professional experience in diverse non-profit donor development operations, including major gifts and stewardship
  • Prefer familiarity with the United Methodist Church in New England and its organization and structure
  • Ability to deal with confidential information in a sensitive manner
  • Strong research, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to locate and interpret biographic and financial information from a variety of sources
  • Ability to work well under pressure, handle several projects simultaneously and re-prioritize as needed as well as strong experience with computers, online databases, and Internet searching
  • Understanding of information management in a database structure, particularly the ability to organize and retrieve data
  • Strong communication skills. Ability to synthesize high volumes of data and write concisely. Ability to work well with diverse groups
  • Exemplary interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate effectively with culturally diverse staff across organizations
  • Prefer experience with volunteer recruitment and engagement
  • Interest in social justice strongly desirable
